In today’s world, success is often measured by tangible achievements: wealth, fame, and power. However, as followers of Christ, we are called to view success differently. Our measure of success is not found in the world’s accolades but in fulfilling God’s purpose for our lives. Let’s explore what the Bible says about true success and how we can align our lives with God’s definition.
#1: Success is Living Out Our God-Given Calling
Ephesians 2:10 – “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
Just as each part of the body has a unique function, each of us is created with a specific purpose in mind. Success is not in achieving what the world deems important but in discovering and living out the unique calling God has placed on our lives.
“God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called.” – Anonymous
Seek to understand and embrace the specific calling God has for you. This may not lead to wealth or fame, but it will lead to a fulfilling and impactful life that aligns with God’s will.
#2: Success is Found in Serving Others
Matthew 23:11 – “The greatest among you will be your servant.”
True greatness in the kingdom of God is not measured by how many serve us, but by how many we serve. Jesus Christ, the King of Kings, exemplified this by washing the feet of His disciples—a task reserved for the lowest servant.
“Success is not about how much you have but about how much you give.” – Tim Tebow
Measure your success by the impact you have on the lives of others. Look for opportunities to serve and uplift those around you, reflecting Christ’s love and humility.
#3: Success is Achieving Faithfulness over Fruitfulness
1 Corinthians 4:2 – “Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.”
In the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30), the servants are not judged by the amount they return to their master but by their faithfulness in stewarding what they were given. Similarly, our success is determined by our faithfulness to what God has entrusted to us, not necessarily by the worldly results of our efforts.
“Faithfulness, not fruitfulness, is the measure of success in the kingdom of God.” – Rick Warren
Focus on being faithful in the small and big tasks God has given you. Trust that He is working through your faithfulness, even when the results are not immediately visible.
True success is not found in the accumulation of wealth, fame, or power but in living out our calling, serving others, and being faithful to God’s purposes. Let us redefine success in our lives according to God’s Word and strive to hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21). May our lives reflect the true success that comes from following Christ and fulfilling the mission He has prepared for us.
